Harold Emery Meiley was born March 9, 1906 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois the son of Emery Gay Meiley and Laura Nevada Sheldon. He married Claudia Heath Carter May 9, 1936 and they had two children, Judy Gay and Claudia Jeanne. Claudia died April 6, 1940.  He married Janet Carolyn Lehman September 18, 1940 and they had two sons, Emery and Charles.

He was employed in the real estate and insurance businesses.

He was raised a Master Mason May 5, 1947 in Euclid Lodge and served as Master in 1952. He was a Grand Lecturer and served on the Board of Grand Examiners for the Grand Lodge of Illinois. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons. He was a member of the Aurora Commandery No. 22, Knights Templar, the Scottish Rite, of which he was the instructor for the degree team, past District Deputy Grand Master of the 31st District and a member of Medinah Temple Shriners. Also Althea Chapter No. 206, Order of Eastern Star and the Naperville Moose Lodge.

He died April 29, 1961 in Morris, Grundy County, Illinois on his way to a Masonic Lodge meeting. He was buried in Naperville Cemetery
