Earl Horatio Slayton was born April 18, 1905 in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois the son of John Horatio Slayton and Emma B. Sutherland. He married Ethel Nancy Parnham about 1927 and they had three children, Dee Parnham, Letty Ann and Frederick John.

He was a postal employee and became a U.S. Postal Inspector.

He was raised a Master Mason April 16, 1935 and served as Master of the Lodge in 1942, 1943 and 1961. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons.

He died December 30, 1979 in San Diego County, California.
