Asa Mather Royce was born on April 4, 1872 in DuPage Township, Will County, Illinois. He was the youngest of the five children of Jonathan Franklin Royce V and Sarah Abigail Mather. After attending the local school he attended the Knox College at Galesburg, Illinois. On June 27th, 1984, he was united in married to Frances Wilson. From this union five daughters were born; Marion, Roberta, Dorothy, Florence and Jane. After college he entered upon his business career working first as a bookkeeper in Chicago and subsequently becoming one of the members of the firm of Scott, Royce, Co. of Naperville, Illinois. He was raised a Master Mason June 16, 1893 in Euclid Lodge and served as Master of the Lodge in 1906. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons. He died March 30, 1913 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alfred E. Randell at the Congregational Church and the Aurora Commandery Knights Templar had charge of the services at the grave. |
