Joseph Niklas was born October 24, 1892 in Stephansfield Austria. He married Catherine Elizabeth Meissner August 7, 1916 in Chicago and they had two children, Robert J. and Phyllis I.

He drove a truck for the Murphy Ward Dairy Company in Chicago in 1920 and then was employed by the Kroehler Furniture Manufacturing Company in Naperville as an assembler and truck driver.

He was raised a Master Mason February 19, 1924 in Euclid Lodge and served as Master of the Lodge in 1929.

He died March 10, 1974 in Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida and was buried in the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Naperville.
