Edwin Earl Sargent was born March 8, 1866, in Lisle Township, DuPage County, Illinois. He was the son of Marquis Lafayette Sargent and Lois Maria Ingalls. He was educated in the public schools of Naperville, supplemented with a commercial course in the Northwestern College (North Central). He married Celia N. Sprague Royce (widow of George E. Royce PM 1895) October 23, 1902. From this union three children were born, Lois, Charles Earl and Caryl (Mrs. Ralph Eugene Bentz). Until the age of 31, he was engaged in agricultural pursuits, then he went to work for Dolese and Shepard Company, Chicago, as manager of the teaming department and later as paymaster. From 1904 to 1909 he embarked in a livery and teaming business of his own. He served as Township Clerk for six years. He was a Member of the Naperville Association of Commerce and the Naperville Cemetery Association. He was also the proprietor of the Fountain Garage, where he sold Reo automobiles. He was raised a Master Mason November 11, 1890 in Euclid Lodge and served as Master of the Lodge in 1897, 1898 and 1907. He also served Euclid Lodge as Senior Warden in 1896 and 1903, Junior Warden in 1892, Secretary in 1893 and 1894, and Senior Deacon in 1895 and 1906. He was a member of and served as High Priest of Euclid Chapter No. 13, R.A.M. in 1933 and 1934. He was also a member of Aurora Commandery No. 22, Knights Templar, Althea Chapter No. 206, Order of the Eastern Star, and a Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of Chicago. He died October 16, 1937, in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois. He was buried in Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, Illinois with Euclid Lodge No. 65 in charge of the funeral services. |
