Alexander McSwain Sheridan Riddler was born March 1, 1837 in New York City the son of John J. Riddler and Elizabeth Sanderson. He married Mary Daphne Collins (daughter of member John Collins) August 6, 1874. He worked in Lodge member Hamilton C. Daniels drugstore as a clerk and in Willard Scotts Bank as Cashier. He served as Naperville Village Clerk in 1861 and again in 1870 to 1874 and 1877. He was Naperville Village Treasurer in 1866. He served as Naperville Village Trustee in 1878 and then as Naperville Village President in 1879. His last elective office was that of DuPage County Treasurer in which he served from 1887 to 1890. He also served on the Naperville Fire Department, serving Fire Marshall, Assitant Fire Marshall, Foreman and Secretary. He was with Levi Shafer and Marcellus Jones when the first shot was fired at Gettysburg. He was wounded in battle, receiving a shell wound to his right eye. He took part in the battles of Beverly Ford, Hazel Run, South Mountain, Antietam and Gettysburg. He served as the Treasurer of his church for more than 30 years, St. John’s Episcopalian in Naperville.

He was raised a Master Mason on February 27, 1866 in Euclid Lodge. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1873 and 1874.

He died November 9, 1907 in Naperville and was buried in the Naperville cemetery.
