Dr. Charles Nauman was born November 1, 1847 in Neuen Kirchen, Saarland, Germany the son of Jacob Naumann and Sophia Hornecker. He came to America in 1854 with his parents, settling in Wayne County, Ohio. He attended the common schools there and then the Smithville Academy. In 1872 he graduated from North Western College (North Central) in Naperville. He married Jennie Wagner November 17, 1881 and from this union they had three children, Carl Brandt, Mary Leah and Kathryn Eyer. He taught at North Western College as an assistant in 1873 and 1874 and also served as the college alumni president in 1876. He attended the Hahnemann College in Chicago and graduated in 1876 from the Pulte Medical College in Cincinnati, Ohio where he received his medical degree for Homeopathic Medicine. He then returned to Illinois and set up practice in Hinsdale, Illinois for a year. He then came to Naperville and was in partnership with Dr. John A. Bell until 1884. He spent one year in Frankfort, South Dakota as the high school superintendent in 1885. In 1886 he returned to Ohio, settling in Circleville, Pickaway County. He served on the City Council of Circleville, served as an examiner of the teachers of the public schools and was also President of the City Library Board. He affiliated with Euclid Lodge on January 23, 1877 from Plainfield Lodge No. 536, Plainfield, Illinois and was Worshipful Master of Euclid Lodge in 1881. He died March 19, 1916 in Circleville, Pickaway County, Ohio and was buried in Forest Cemetery, Circleville, Ohio. |
