John Boyer Frost was born August 12, 1842 in Jonestown, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania the son of David and Susanna Frost. He came with his family to Naperville in 1855. He married Elizabeth Ann Hughes October 10, 1867 and they had six children, Cora E., Nettie May, Herbert W., Frank B., Oscar Hubert  and Edwin H.

He was a grain dealer and grain commissioner, serving on the Chicago Board of Trade for 32 years. He served in Company F, 139th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. He also served as Naperville Postmaster in 1881 and 1882.

He affiliated with Euclid Lodge January 18, 1870 from Peoria Lodge No. 15, Peoria, Illinois. He served as Master of Euclid Lodge in 1882.  He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons.

He died May 30, 1923 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery.
