Werner Una Petterson Sr. was born August 17, 1860 in Falun, Dalarna County, Sweden. He married Amelia Horgberg November 22, 1884 and they were the parents of seven children, Thyra, Rohland Perr, Edwin Sidney, Werner Una II., Lillian, Herman and Esther. Werner came to America in 1881, first settling in Chicago, and then moving to Iowa. In 1904 he and his family came to Naperville and Werner was employed as the first furniture designer for Kroehler Furniture Manufacturing Company. He and Peter Kroehler held one of the first patents for a sofa bed. He worked for Kroehler’s until his retirement. Amelia died June 12, 1925. He was raised a Master Mason April 22, 1907 in Euclid Lodge. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons and served as High Priest in 1917. He died February 13, 1952 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. |
