Guy Eugene Oliver Sr. was born January 22, 1884 in Crescent City, Houston County, Minnesota the son of Lynds Jones Oliver and Ella Arminda Sumner. He married Ruth Louise Perry June 26, 1915 and they had three children, Guy Oliver Jr., Donald Earl and Jean Maxine. He received his B.A. degree at Hamline University in 1909, and the M.A. degree from Northwestern University. He also did graduate work at Leland Powers School of the Spoken Word in Boston, Massachusetts.

He was Professor of Public Speaking at North Central College from 1916 to 1952.

He was raised a Master Mason in Euclid Lodge August 11, 1946 and served as Master of the Lodge in 1956. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons.

He died August 24, 1959 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery.
