Frederick Richard Kluckhohn was born November 21, 1891 in Reddick, Kankakee County, Illinois the son of Henry George Kluckhohn and Magdalene Hauswirth. He attended North Western College (North Central), graduating in 1917 with a BS degree. He was recognized as the best all-around athlete that had ever played for the college. He married Agnes Betsy Marion Keller June 9, 1917 and they had three children, James Allen, Richard Keller and Betty Anne.

He was on the faculty of the college from 1917 to 1920 as Director of Athletics. He purchased the Keller Coal Business from his father-in-law and operated it for a number of years under the name of Fred R. Kluckhohn, Coal and Coke. He went to work for the Illinois Department of Finance Retailers Occupation Tax Division in the DuPage County Clerks Office. He served as a Naperville Commissioner from 1927 to 1931 and again from 1947 to 1951.

He was raised a Master Mason May 25, 1917 in Euclid Lodge, and served as Master of the Lodge in 1948. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons and served as High Priest in 1953.

He died November 3, 1968 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery.
