Roy Allen Mather was born May 27th, 1870, in Wheatland Township, Will County, Illinois. He was the son of Samuel Mather (PM) and Malvina Ballou. He was a direct descendant of Increase Mather, one of the first Presidents of Harvard College. He attended Northwestern College (North Central) and the University of Illinois, graduating in the class of 1892 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Emma Anna Maria Hammerschmidt on October 21, 1896. From this union the following seven children were born: Margaret S., Lawrence Hammerschmidt, Helen Caroline, Rachel Bertha, Jean A., Doris Allen, and Virginia.

His experience included work on the Chicago Elevated Railroads, bridge draftsman for the C. B. & Q. railroad, and draftsmen/engineer for the American Bridge Co. He was also an instructor for the American Bridge Co. apprentice school and a member of the Corps of Engineers. He invented the Rectifying Curve, patented in 1911. His hobbies included Astronomy and Photography.

He was raised a Master Mason June 21, 1892 in Euclid Lodge and served as Master of the Lodge in 1896. He also served Euclid Lodge No. 65 as Junior Warden in 1894 and 1895, Secretary in 1898 and 1899, and Junior Deacon in 1893.

He died November 22, 1941, in Lark Inn Fields, Leetsdale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was buried in the Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, Illinois.
