Harvey Edwin Kailer was born Christmas Day, December 25, 1877, in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois the son of Frederick Kailer and Melvinia Susanna Snyder. He was married to Almeda E. Smith of Aurora on February 1, 1911 in Cook County, Illinois. He graduated from the West Side school and from the Commercial Department of North-Western (North Central) College in 1897.

He then went into the clothing business with his father and then later with his brother-in-law as Kailer and Brossman. After marrying Almeda he went into the manufacturing business in Chicago. He was also an inventor, holding patents in 1915 for preventing the freezing of cooling systems of automobiles, and in 1919 for bracing the Chassis-frames, running boards and fenders of automobiles.

He was raised a Master Mason in Euclid Lodge on Februay 2, 1904 and served as Master of the Lodge in 1908. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons and served as High Priest  in 1909, 1910, and 1911.

He died April 16, 1950, in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois. Cremation was at Oak Ridge Abbey.
