Robert Freeman was born February 21, 1809 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania the son of James Freeman and Mary Dunn. He came to Chicago, Illinois in 1833 where he worked as a carpenter and joiner and then settled in DuPage Township, Will County in 1843 where he farmed until he retired to Naperville. He first married Adaline Boardman 1841 and from this union four children were born, Harry Boardman, Emma M., Eliza Jane and Louisa A. Adaline died in 1859 and Robert married Cynthia J. Dewey December 11, 1861. From this union two children were born, Arthur Robert and Ella C. Cynthia died March 14, 1866 and Robert then married Frances B. Wescott Brown.  From this union one child was born, Jessie. He was raised a Master Mason August 28, 1855 in Euclid Lodge. He was also a member of Euclid Chapter No. 13, Royal Arch Masons and served as High Priest in 1870. He died October 30, 1888 in Naperville, DuPage County and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery.
